A long overdue Mixtape Tuesday. Hugo Hans.
In other music news, the hits keep coming to our neck of the woods. A few days ago Jared and I bought tickets to see the amazing Kishi Bashi play here in Jacksonville, and later this year Tennis! My beloved Tennis! We will have to make our way down to Orlando (on a school night yuck!) for that one, but I take solace in the fact that the venue has an old school photobooth.

SUPER RAD
Jared has absconded with the laptop so a recap of Norway will have to wait another day...another exhausting day might I add. I am still pretty bushwacked from that particular adventure, last nights activity not helping much.
My father, youngest brother and I all went to see The Aquabats last night. There were cosplayers, children of all ages, a girl in a full AB gear, Koo Koo Kangaroo - who ended their set throwing a giant colorful parachute party, kindergarten style, in the audience and made me want to jump off the balcony into the fray.
The Aquabats did not disappoint on their 20th anniversary tour. I had a brief and torrid love affair with them in the 10th and 11th grades, introducing them to my Dad and brothers, and I could still shout along to every word of Pool Party, Super Rad, Fashion Zombie and Lovers of Loving Love. Fun fact: The MC Bat Commander and Crash McLarson are card carrying Mormons.
During the encore, they brought 5 kids up ranging from about 9-4 - their first rock shows - AND HAD THEM CROWD SURF. Parents, I implore you, if their tour comes close, grab some earplugs and your children of whatever age and take them to this show. They are guaranteed to have the best night of their lives. Aquabats, thanks for being the best band on earth.

LOCAL NATIVES + MOSES SUMNEY
I had a great time last night, and I also felt a million years old. As I walked up to meet Aubrey and Brandon (who I miss desperately and terribley please move to Jacksonville) in line, I noticed this show was skewed heavily to the teenage sect. Oh well. We hit the balcony and stayed there, despite the crazy hipster girl trying to peak between our legs. It was a sold out show and I looked down at the sea of bodies below me. I kind of missed the energy of being on the floor, but then you think better of it once random shirtless guy starts rockin' and rollin', somebody else lights up a doobie, and the girl on the front row grinds up on her boyfriend. Ya. I think I am a top floor girl from now on.
I know Local Native as sort of a small band with a cool sound, mainly because I listen to their TinyDesk performance on repeat. But this show these boys were loud. And I loved it. Their opening act also completley blew me away. Moses Sumney was using a crazy cool live looping technique and had the guts to tell the chattering 12 year olds in the crowd to shhhhhhhhhhhhh. I definitely look forward to seeing this guy in the future.

MIXTAPE TUESDAY
Rhye has invaded our home and I have no intention of asking them to leave. Go on, try and resist.
Another song on repeat? Sigh No More from Joss Whedon's Much Ado About Nothing. That movie was so charming and so refreshing. The Kenneth Branagh version was a huge favorite from my childhood, and no one can dethrone him as the Benedict of my heart, but this newer version is really delightful
. For those of you in Jacksonville, check it out at Sun-Ray Cinema in Riverside. It makes a great date night.

MIXTAPE: THINKIN BOUT YOU
February is winding down, folks. I am trying to savor the last week of my 23rd year. I know once March rolls around this year is going to rocket on by. It's a machine gun blast of activity this spring. Birthday parties, bridal showers, baby showers, weddings, trips, games, adventures, Disney, puppy obedience classes. These last few days of calm before the frantic hurdle jumps of activity, no matter how enjoyable I know they will be, call for a slow jam. It's not a Tuesday, and I haven't done a mixtape in awhile, but today just seemed right, you know?
I am always down for a great slow jam. Except in spin class. Never in spin class. My wierdo spin teacher kept playing Enrique Iglesias slow jams in my class Monday, it was terrible. I mean, it wasn't even the ping pong song. Come on dude. I need some fire in my belly

Mixtape Tuesday
My friends Tyler and Kimmie have a precious blog where they post photos and things that inspire them. Today they posted this video of a performance by Feist. I am awe struck! This is so gorgeous and interesting. Thanks so much guys for cluing me into to this!If you're unfamiliar with
As an aside, last night I was hanging laundry, and it seems every time I do so I find another one or two items to donate or throw away. Most of them I have known I need to get rid of for a long time, but they are so sentimental I don't want to, like the dress I wore on my 21st birthday. It's a bit too risque, in the sweetest possible way, for me now. If anyone's interested in taking some hand me downs, let me know. I could save it for future generations, but I ain't got the closet space!.
La Blogotheque, they make some truly amazing live recordings. Somehow they always seem so personal and intimate, like they're letting you in on a secret. This one of Beirut is a long time favorite.

Back on the Wagon
I'm trying to get back into the swing of posting every day. I am doing so gingerly.
Posting every day keeps me on my toes, keeps my brain juice flowing so that my ideas can get all loose and start to bump and grind, start a real idea party up in my headzone.....um ya.
Anyway, speaking of bumpin and grinding, there is nothing I love more then some sweet sweet music. Jared has been digging up some awfully good tunes lately and I wanted to share with you! So, mixtape Tuesday on a slow Monday. Here ya go.

MixTape Tuesday
Whistling the Mexican hat dance while Jared dances in Muir Woods counts as a music video, right? This continues to crack me up.
And here's a song for all you lovers...

Mix Tape Tues
Bon Iver is in Orlando tonight and I shall not be there. In honor of this great tragedy, I give you my favorite song from their first album.
I have such strong emotions tied to For Emma, Forever Ago. I was entering the second half of my freshman year of college and going through some of the worst heart sickness of my life. I was so deep in the pits of unrequited love with my best friend. I didn't know what to do. This album was my companion on many a lonely car ride. Just like Re:Stacks I pushed through all that, not because of a light bulb moment, a "crispy realization", but because of necessity. You have to be happy by yourself, you have to. You can save you. Those hard times made me so much stronger. Of course, the story has a happy ended, my best friend finally got a clue and married me.
Btw, have you seen this SNL skit where J.Timberlake spoofs J. Vernon? Golden.

Mix Tape Tuesday
This ep of mix tape is dedicated to lady mullets and sweet sweet harmony. I want to write a love letter to Mountain Man. How about this?
Piercing voices search.
They find one another and
Lift to soaring heights
You are now encouraged to write your own haiku's and leave them for me.

Mix Tape Tuesday: Sasspot edition
If there's one thing I both love and loathe, it's sass. It both enrages and compels me. I myself have been described as quite sassy, both out of love and rage. I even once had a rat named Sassy, but that is neither here nor there, bless her.
This song, Petition by Tennis is my new sass anthem. Alaina Moore's voice is on POINT. I love the chorus and the little growl in her. Download the whole album (pay close attention to the song Robin, what does it remind you of?) and play it really loud in your car or when you're cooking dinner. One comment on this song says "she has something that women, certainly something" and good grief she DOES.

Mix Tape II
Is it Mix Tape Tuesday? I don't know, I don't know, but I'm feeling sort of sappy, and the only way I can say I love you to the world is through song. Please indulge me, I got to work an hour and a half early this morning, it's quiet and gray outside, it's been raining for two days over here in Riverside.
Track 1: Old Friends/Bookends- Simon and Garfunkel
"Can you imagine us years from today, sharing a park bench quietly,
How terribly strange to be seventy.
Old friends, memory brushes the same years, silently sharing the same fears."
And then the dissonance that leads into Book Ends. Good grief. I just listened to these two songs four times.
More rainy day tunes after the jump. Please nobody fall into a pit of despair.

Mix Tape I
One of my favorite memories took place a year and a half ago. Jared returned from his mission and immediately got jury duty. He had only been home a week! Before he came home, I bought tickets to see one of our favorite bands, Vampire Weekend. His last day of jury duty we jumped in the Contour (rest her soul), grabbed our friend Mitchell and drove 90 the whole way to Orlando to make it there on time. The windows were down and the music was cranked as loud as possible to overpower the roaring. I remember getting to City Walk and running down the main strip to get in before the opening band started.
This summer I want to see as many concerts as I can!
Anyone who knows me knows I adore making mix cds. They are a labor of pure bliss and joy. I also think its nice to listen to a cd once and awhile and take a break from the billion decision box which is your iPod. I wish I could make a mix tape for all 4 of you reading this, but I can nay, so after the jump I've got my summer playlist.
